Last weekend, Nicholas Ghesquière took a tropical getaway to the beautiful, sunny Rio de Janeiro, Brazil whose colorful culture and landscapes served as Louis Vuitton Cruise 2017 collection’s inspiration as showcased to a star studded line up of guests at the futuristic, Niterói Contemporary Art Museum with breath-taking views just like the stunning clothes.
Following Chanel’s Cruise show in Cuba last month, Louis Vuitton is the latest brand to take its resort 2017 collection on a tropical getaway, and where else than Rio de Janeiro, home of the Olympics 2016 set to kick off in less than 65 days (what a great choice to do a sports inspired collection).
Guests were seated on a single row of mismatched crates in lively colors over the Oscar Niemeyer-designed Niterói Contemporary Art Museum, (also known as the MAC de Niterói)which sits on a cliff overlooking Rio’s mountainous landscape.
The collection consisted of a line up of sport, athleticism and Pelè-inspired prints with its most prominent features being white-stretch, multi-pocketed trousers, zip-fastened mini dresses, the ‘Vuitton’ tag to left of the models’ hips comfortable shoes and the 80’s inspired boombox bag which was my best bit.
I choose shoes over handbags any day but this LV Cruise 2017 boomboox handbag made up of a puzzle of Louis Vuitton’s mini-trunks gave me sweet dreams. (if I may sneak that thought in, it’s a well-executed jab at race-car branding)
My favourite is the mini rainbow handbag, fringing, graffiti decoration and vibrant pinks, yellows and scarlets.
